Usually Moorcroft will buy the debt from creditors for a fraction of what you owe, but like most debt recovery companies, will usually chase you for the full amount of the debt.

    "Bank Loan"

I am currently dealing with Moorcroft and, speak as I find, I can honestly say they are fine to deal with. They phone me periodically and offer settlement figures of 20% off the balance. I pay my bank loan on line, and I increase the amount (usually every 5 months) periodically as I am able. They always ask "are you calling to clear this balance today?", but that's an industry standard. I think as debtors we also need to have a reasonable and positive view of our debt, then, when you speak to them, this positivity comes over.......I have a positive , good relationship with them. I have cleared 30% of my debt and I shpould be finished in 14 months, but give them a fair go, and maybe it's OUR attitude sometimes? 7/10 to Moorcroft from me.

MR ANON eh? This is obviously just a ploy from unscrupulous debt collectors in trying to con the public . Don't fall for this

    "Obnoxious, and just plain rude"

I'm quite a young guy, and to be honest I've never had to deal with any debt recovery agencies before. about 1 year and a half ago, I got made redundant from my job, and I missed paying a bill on my o2 account just after renewing my contract. This was totally my fault in all fairness. Moorcroft took the debt on behalf of o2, and sent me a number of letters in the meantime, so I phoned them up to explain my situation, and they wanted NONE of it. Their agents are extremely pushy, overly aggressive and arrogant. They have reduced me to tears over the phone, threatening me in all manners possible. They are really intimidating and very reluctant to actually help you, on top of adding ridiculous amounts of interest on top of the original debt. I actually ended up on anti-depressants because of the pressure they were putting on me (amongst other things), My advice to anybody (and as cliché as it may sound), is to simply not get into debt. They eventually passed my debt onto another company, who have actually been brilliant with me, and I have not had one letter, phonecall or any type of correspondence from them, as I've just paid money, when I can online.

"moorcroft such horrible nasty bullies "

I tried to work something out with moorcroft they were just not intrested they wanted their money in full even though i told them i could afford to pay in full but i keep offering them monthly instalments same thing over and over again with them ,no money in full or your going to court and other costs will be added to it.I felt i was on a losing battle and things only got worse they were constantly phoning my house ,sending letters ,the stress of this made me very ill and my wife ended up with very bad psoriasis and had to go into hospital for days due to all the harrassment from these people .

    "Bullies"

Words cannot explain how i feel about this company, they have almost driven to the brink of madness with their attitude and rudeness. They almost mock you when you get angry with them Recently they sent me a letter saying they were going to refer my account for court action, they are nasty, nasty people. Each time I hear from them I report it to Debtline who very nicely calm me down and deal with Moorcroft directl, I then go on their website and leave a message telling them again about their bullying tactics and remind them that I am with Debtline and to leave me alone otherwise a formal complaint will be made against them,. They then leave you alone for a bit and then start all over again hoping that you have somehow managed to find the money you owe!

    "Go above them!"

If you are getting stressed by Moorcroft, say they are calling you too much, tell them back off and by the way I am writing a complaint to your holding company. Their parent company is Barclays, and write to their CEO at their head office complaining about their subsidiary, and copy that letter of complaint back to Moorcroft. It has worked with so many companies, it is worth a try with them.

    "Very Polite"

Spoke to them about my debts today. No interest or charges!! Polite, reasonable. Richard

    S Jones 16/12/2010   00:06:58

Oh boy! You just wait til you miss a payment! They will harass you beyond belief. They are rude, callous and ruthless and after my experience of them, I am sure must surely be responsible for many heart attacks and suicide attempts. I am glad to no longer be in their clutches!

    Tony T 16/12/2010   10:40:44

I agree S Jones. i had a dreadful experience with them. I know it was my fault for getting myself in their clutches, but thats still not an excuse to not give common certacy. 'Very polite' does surprise me somewhat!! i suppose everyones frame of reference must be different...;p

    William 16/03/2011   01:22:50

I do NOT even owe them any money and they have harrassed and threatened me for years claiming there to be TWO outstanding loans from a company called HFC Bank - They are also extremely abusive when you tell them you do not have debts with HFC (ie.. People like you debtors should just pay up there is no place for the likes of you) They Are Criminals They Should Be In Prison. I do not owe them or HFC any money yet they phone and write and 3 times agreed I was correct and did not owe anything then each time 12 months later started to make claims of debts again

    Ashley 30/03/2011   13:47:05

In debt with a company? Know your Rights

In November 2012, the Office of Fair Trading updated their Debt Collection guidelines. It is important that you know:

  1. Companies cannot force you to repay more than you can comfortably afford each month.
  2. If you make a reduced payment, companies should not refuse it.
  3. If you enter a Debt Management Plan with Debt Line, companies should not contact you directly, they should contact Debt Line.

Please note the above guidelines are how Debt Line have interpreted the OFT Debt Collection Guidance July 2003 (updated 2012).
