In debt with a company? Know your Rights

In November 2012, the Office of Fair Trading updated their Debt Collection guidelines. It is important that you know:

  1. Companies cannot force you to repay more than you can comfortably afford each month.
  2. If you make a reduced payment, companies should not refuse it.
  3. If you enter a Debt Management Plan with Debt Line, companies should not contact you directly, they should contact Debt Line.

Please note the above guidelines are how Debt Line have interpreted the OFT Debt Collection Guidance July 2003 (updated 2012).
