Hi michelle.Burgess,

Thank you for your post on the forum.

I would like to say that I agree with your post completely and you have done a brilliant job of explaining it, :D

I just wanted to elaborate on some of the valuable information in your post. At the end of the day EVERYTHING effects your credit rating! While your with Debt Line your main focus should be on ensuring that every thing's running smoothly and your debts are being paid back regularly. Once your debts are cleared, then you can start to focus on rebuilding your credit rating.

But to clarify, Debt Line, as a debt management company, do not report to any credit referencing agency.
One of the benefits of being with Debt Line is that we set up your plan based on the amount that you can realistically afford each month, alongside being able to live comfortably. This means you are paying your debts back at a rate that suits your income and expenses rather than the creditors.

Inevitably, this means that some of your creditors will be getting less than their contractual amount and potentially less than their minimum requirement. We do pay each of your creditors on a pro-rata basis, whereby whoever is owed the most amount gets the most money and vice versa. Because of this, as you have explained, this can cause debts to fall into arrears and your creditors are within their rights to report back to credit referencing agencies.

Kind Regards

Erin Breen

I would like to add that although having a debt management plan with Debtline will not affect your credit score its likely that it will be affected anyway as the payment that debtline offer is likely to be less than what you previously paid or the minimum payment that is required. Therefore creating arrears with your creditors and in turn affecting your credit score. This is not debtlines fault as they prioritise who they give the larger payments too taking into account who is owed more etc. I have been with debtline for almost a year now and although its easier having that one monthly payment going out for my debts, i wish i had contacted some of my creditors myself to arrange a lower payment to avoid my credit score being affected.

Hiya Simona!

Thanks for your forum post, and a big Welcome from all of us to the Debt Line family! :D

I am sorry to hear that you are receiving phone calls and letters from your creditors.

Generally speaking there are a few reasons why your creditors would choose to contact you rather than us:
1.) There are missing or irregular payments
2.) The debt has been passed onto a debt recovery agency or has only been recently added to the plan
3.) We hold incorrect information for the debt. i.e. reference number
4.) You are still within the first three months of your debt management plan.

I have looked into your account Simona and can see that you are very much still in the initial stages of your debt management plan. We have sent off all your creditors paperwork on the 25th May outlining the repayments that we are proposing to pay. But did you know that for some creditors it can take them up to 8 weeks for them to process the paperwork we send and get back to us with the arrangements?! This is why we like to refer to the first 2 months of the plan the negotiation period as this is when we are getting everything set in place.

We have sent off token payments to each creditor while we look to get arrangements in place and this is good for two reasons. 1.) It stops your account defaulting through non-payment 2.) helps us to cement those all important relationships, even further, with your creditors.

I understand that receiving letters and phone calls from your creditors must be frustrating. But I feel that the initial hassle that you have been receiving from your creditors will stop as we get these regular payments out to them and show your commitment to paying off the debts in the arrangements proposed by us. When you receive letters from your creditors please ensure that all the information on the letter matches the details we have for your debt, for example; reference, creditor name, etc. Should a creditor call you directly please give them your Debt Line reference and most importantly be honest with them, explain that you have taken a positive step in dealing with your debts by coming on board with us and please let them know that the relevant paperwork has been sent to them. Maybe you could even ask them to put a hold on the calls until they've had the chance to process our paperwork?

Your regular payment amount is due to be distributed to your creditors once we receive your payment at the end of this month. You can see exactly how much is paid to each creditor, as well as when it is sent out to them, on your personal online account. Please click on the 'My Statements' tab to view this.

I hope this helps answer your query, please let us know if you need anything else :D

Kind Regards

Angela

Hi Lizielda

I am sorry to hear that you are thinking of retracting your application to become part of the Debtline family :(

Do you have any questions about how the plan works that you feel need answering?

Looking at your application today, I can see that you have not yet had the chance to chat to one of our friendly advisors.

If you decide Debtline is not the right option for you, that is absolutely fine and your decision. However, one of our guys will need to close your application for you.

I will pass your details on so that they can give you a call.

I really hope that they can answer any questions that you may have and that we can start you on your journey to becoming debt-free. But if not, ofcourse we wish you all the best for the future :D

Kind regards

I applied through online and they sent me an authority to act form and the terms and conditios. I just wanna ask if its alright to decline my application? And is their any charges that I will pay even if I decline my application.
