Well I have decided to make that commitment to get myself debt-free and signed up with DL. I'm a few hundred quid lighter in the pocket, but that will be offset by what I would have had to pay out to creditors.

I'm a big believer in comsumer knowledge and letting people know when a service or product is working well (or not) and I know Trevor Franckeiss is a big supporter of DL being open & transparent to new & existing customers, so I'll be posting regular on here my experiences with DL over the next few months & years, and every credit to DL for allowing itself to be put in the firing line by allowing a forum to exsist in the first place.

So, lets see DL work its magic. ;)

Hi Chas,

Welcome to Debt Line

The great news is that being on a Debt Management plan doesn't appear on your credit rating, If you went to an IVA company or went bankrupt this would appear on your credit file.

Your credit rating becomes affected when contractual payments aren't being made to your creditors and when payments are missed completely, when you found it a struggle to pay the contractual payments, you made the right decision by coming to Debt Line for our help.

I hope this helps you.

Kind Regards

Hi Lizielda

I am sorry to hear that you are thinking of retracting your application to become part of the Debtline family :(

Do you have any questions about how the plan works that you feel need answering?

Looking at your application today, I can see that you have not yet had the chance to chat to one of our friendly advisors.

If you decide Debtline is not the right option for you, that is absolutely fine and your decision. However, one of our guys will need to close your application for you.

I will pass your details on so that they can give you a call.

I really hope that they can answer any questions that you may have and that we can start you on your journey to becoming debt-free. But if not, ofcourse we wish you all the best for the future :D

Kind regards

Hiya Simona!

Thanks for your forum post, and a big Welcome from all of us to the Debt Line family! :D

I am sorry to hear that you are receiving phone calls and letters from your creditors.

Generally speaking there are a few reasons why your creditors would choose to contact you rather than us:
1.) There are missing or irregular payments
2.) The debt has been passed onto a debt recovery agency or has only been recently added to the plan
3.) We hold incorrect information for the debt. i.e. reference number
4.) You are still within the first three months of your debt management plan.

I have looked into your account Simona and can see that you are very much still in the initial stages of your debt management plan. We have sent off all your creditors paperwork on the 25th May outlining the repayments that we are proposing to pay. But did you know that for some creditors it can take them up to 8 weeks for them to process the paperwork we send and get back to us with the arrangements?! This is why we like to refer to the first 2 months of the plan the negotiation period as this is when we are getting everything set in place.

We have sent off token payments to each creditor while we look to get arrangements in place and this is good for two reasons. 1.) It stops your account defaulting through non-payment 2.) helps us to cement those all important relationships, even further, with your creditors.

I understand that receiving letters and phone calls from your creditors must be frustrating. But I feel that the initial hassle that you have been receiving from your creditors will stop as we get these regular payments out to them and show your commitment to paying off the debts in the arrangements proposed by us. When you receive letters from your creditors please ensure that all the information on the letter matches the details we have for your debt, for example; reference, creditor name, etc. Should a creditor call you directly please give them your Debt Line reference and most importantly be honest with them, explain that you have taken a positive step in dealing with your debts by coming on board with us and please let them know that the relevant paperwork has been sent to them. Maybe you could even ask them to put a hold on the calls until they've had the chance to process our paperwork?

Your regular payment amount is due to be distributed to your creditors once we receive your payment at the end of this month. You can see exactly how much is paid to each creditor, as well as when it is sent out to them, on your personal online account. Please click on the 'My Statements' tab to view this.

I hope this helps answer your query, please let us know if you need anything else :D

Kind Regards

Angela
